Orosei and the Cedrino River

Welcome to Orosei and his Gulf

Santa Maria e Mare Church, Orosei
Gulf of Orosei

Are there uncontaminated beaches in the Mediterranean Sea? Are there dream places even far from Caraibi?
Of course! You can find them in Sardinia in front of the well known town of Orosei on it's gulf!

The Gulf of Orosei is located on Sardinia's eastern coast, roughly 100 kilometers south of the harbour town of Olbia, one of the main gateaways to Sardinia. It is a symmetrical arch extending from Capo Nero on the north to Capo Monte Santo on the south.  It's the longest coastal tract in Italy without any signs of human habitation is to be found on the eastern side of Sardinia. For around 40 kilometres the coastline between Cala Gonone and Santa Maria Navarrese is not only completely uninhabited, but also blessed with a rugged and wild hinterland rich in endemic species of flora and fauna.
Italian writers Fulco Pratesi e Franco Tassi call the Gulf of Orosei "...probably the most beautiful stretch of Italian coast and without a shadow of a doubt, the wildest and steepest."

The historic place Orosei lies to the north of Nuoro on the coastal road SS125, a little south of the turist settlements of Cala Liberotto and Sos Alinos, below the mountain of Monte Tuttavista (806 m). Only few kilometers from the sea, was already founded in the early Middle Ages. It was in fact a villa of the Giudicato di Gallura. Its economic bloom was under the Pisan barons of the family Guiso. Orosei then later was the capital of the Sardinian region of Baronie.
Today Orosei has 5000 inhabitants with a small, historic local center and characteristic "Piazzetta", medieval and baroque buildings, as well as beautiful sacred buildings, that give a country-typical, Mediterranean atmosphere to this place.
